The Montgomery County Department of Social Services Biennial Temporary Assistance and SNAP plan is available for a 30-day public comment and review period. The plan offers supportive services to help people on Temporary Assistance and SNAP rejoin the labor market. For information, contact the Social Services office at 64 Broadway, Fonda or call 518-212-5794 / 518-853-8312.
It is the goal of the Employment Unit to help all applicants and recipients attain self-sufficiency. We work with Temporary Assistance, Safety Net and Food Stamp individuals who have been determined to be employable. These individuals are required to participate in certain work activities in an effort to prepare them for entry into the work force. These activities include work experience (work site), job search, job skills training, and on-the-job-training. Individuals could also be assigned to an educational program such as ESL or GED classes.
It is also the Employment Units goal to help recipients with barriers they may have to employment such as transportation, work related expenses (such as uniforms, shoes, tools, etc.), and child care. These issues are discussed at an assessment the Employment Worker does with the recipient and are handled on a case by case basis when an Employment Plan is created for the individual.
