Enhanced ID/License

An Enhanced license, permit, or non-driver ID is a New York DMV issued document that can be used in place of a passport at US Land/Sea Border crossings (such as Canada, Mexico, and some countries in the Caribbean), and entry into federal buildings and military bases.

Only US Citizens who are residents of New York can obtain an Enhanced New York State license.

The additional fee for an enhanced driver licensed (EDL) or enhanced non-driver ID card (ENDID) is $30.00. The fee is added to the other fees for the driver license or non-driver ID transaction.

REAL ID

Beginning May 7, 2025, the federal government will require your driver license, permit or ID card to be REAL ID compliant if you wish to use it as identification to board a domestic flight (within the U.S.), or enter military bases and certain federal facilities.

Enhanced driver license, permit, or non-driver ID and valid U.S. Passport are already REAL ID compliant and can be used to board a flight.

There is no additional cost to get a REAL ID. All normal transaction fees still apply.
