Single Stream Recycling

Montgomery County Solid Waste accepts Single Stream Recycling (SSR) at both transfer station locations. SSR allows recyclable materials - paper & cardboard, plastic, metal and glass - to be placed in the same container. You do not need to sort the recycling prior to delivery. Once collected, the recyclables are taken to another facility for sorting and processing.

Paper & Cardboard

  • Newspapers, including inserts, coupons, and advertisements
  • Junk mail & envelopes
  • Mixed Paper-(i.e. office paper, paper bags, clean cereal boxes, pasta boxes, egg cartons, etc.)
  • Cardboard-(break down corrugated boxes flat)
  • Magazines & Catalogs
  • Paper grocery bags & lunch bags
  • Empty soda & beer cases
  • Frozen food boxes
  • Pizza Boxes (remove food)
  • Paper plates & cups
  • Gift, Toy & Tissue Boxes
  • Telephone Books
  • Non-metallic greeting cards & Wrapping paper
  • Mailing Tubes

Plastic

  • BOTTLES with #1- 7 symbol on bottom (i.e. water bottles, soda
    bottles, detergent bottles, shampoo containers, milk jugs, etc.)
  • Plastic food trays (i.e. microwave, frozen food, candy, cake, cookie
    trays, etc.)
  • HARD PLASTIC (i.e. toys, buckets, etc.)
  • TO PREPARE: Rinse thoroughly. Labels do not need to be removed.

Glass

  • Beverage/ food bottles & jars, any color. (i. e. beer bottles, liquor bottles, salsa jars, jelly jars, etc.)
  • TO PREPARE: Rinse thoroughly. Labels do not need to be removed.

Gable Top & Aseptic Containers

  • Gable top containers (milk & juice cartons, etc.)
  • Aseptic containers (drink boxes, soy milk containers, soup boxes)
  • TO PREPARE: Rinse thoroughly and flatten. Remove straws from boxes.

Metal

  • All food & beverage cans (tin, aluminum, etc.) place lids inside cans
  • Aluminum foil
  • Aluminum baking tins
  • TO PREPARE: Rinse thoroughly. Labels do not need to be removed.
