County-wide Initiative Encourages Residents to Check on One Another
FONDA, NY- Take 5 for New York is a new county-wide campaign that is being launched to encourage Montgomery County residents to take five minutes out of each day to call a friend, loved one, or acquaintance who may be alone and feeling isolated during this period of social distancing. It is part of a state-wide effort promoted by the New York State Association of Counties.
“We are calling on our residents to take just five minutes of each day to call a loved one, friend, neighbor, acquaintance to say hi and check on them,” County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “We understand that with social distancing in full force, people may be feeling lonely, especially our senior population. Taking five minutes can make a huge difference during this difficult time.”
“Throughout this pandemic we have emphasized the importance of trying to remain healthy and mental health is an important piece of that,” County Public and Mental Health Director Sara Boerenko said. “Our daily lives have been disrupted, causing stress and anxiety for many. Please consider taking five minutes to give someone you know a call, it might be a mood booster for you as well.”
This statewide campaign is being launched with the hashtag #Take5ForNY. Please share with us on Facebook @MontgomeryCONY or Instagram at @montgomerycountyny
