Site Walkthrough Sees Interest, Large Turnout
FONDA - Approximately 20 engineering companies took part in a walkthrough of the former Beech-Nut site Wednesday after Montgomery County issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) last week.
The RFQ was to obtain engineering services for the preparation of plans, specifications and bid documents for the demolition of the former Beech-Nut facility. Bids are due May 4.
"We are not wasting any time," Montgomery County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. "After receiving the $6 million Restore NY funding last month, we wanted to keep moving forward with our plan. It's important that we inform residents as we move forward."
The firm selected through the RFQ process shall act as the County's on-site representative and directly monitor the activities of all personnel and subcontractors as necessary to perform and complete demolition of the site.
Upon completion of the project, it's anticipated the property will be shovel-ready and available for redevelopment.
Demolition services are expected to be completed within 12 months.
"We hope to make significant progress on the site in 2018," Ossenfort said. "Our team is committed to Canajoharie and this project."
