Employees raise money for Whipple family, which lost Fultonville home in early September fire
FONDA - On Tuesday, the offices of Montgomery County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and Montgomery County Sheriff Michael J. Amato presented Mabellene Whipple, an employee at the Sheriff's Office, with money raised during a "Jeans Day" event, to benefit her family. Mabellene and her family lost their Fultonville home, in a fire in early September.
On September 25, county employees raised $1,212, which will be used for basic necessities, as the family tries to get back on its feet, following the devastating fire. County employees were allowed to wear jeans on that day, but were asked to donate five dollars to help raise money for the Whipple family. The outpouring of support was tremendous throughout the county, as many people generously donated what they could. Another fundraiser is planned, as a Chicken BBQ will be hosted, in Fonda, adjacent to the County Annex Building, from 4-6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 15, with the proceeds going to the family. Jonathan's Catering will be cooking and presale tickets are available at NBT Bank of Fonda, Michael's Diner and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
On select Friday's, Montgomery County has held "Jeans Day" events to raise money for worthy causes. Employees can wear jeans to work, with a $5 donation requested. Over the past year, the county has raised money for Catholic Charities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties, Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County NY and participated in Lee Denim Day, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
