Montgomery County Schedules Youth Serving Veterans Spring Cleanup Day - April 25

Second Annual Community Service Clean Up Event Set For Saturday, April 25

FONDA - County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Department of Youth, ATI and Veterans' Services are proud to announce that the second Youth Serving Veterans Spring Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, April 25th, at 9 a.m.

"This is a great, worthwhile event," Ossenfort said. "Being able to serve those who have served our county is something I strongly believe is important. Our children can learn many things from veterans, people who put their lives on the line defending the freedom that we hold most sacred."

The event will start bright and early on Saturday morning, with cleanup taking place throughout the county. A picnic is scheduled that afternoon for the youth groups, chaperones and veterans participating in the event.

"The opportunity for youth and veterans to interact and learn from each other, while also helping to clean up our community is terrific," said County Legislator Barbara S. Wheeler, District 7.

"This is a great community service event, which allows our county's youth the opportunity to give back and show their appreciation to our veterans by providing yard clean up services," said Brenda Rava, Director, Montgomery County Department of Youth, Alternatives to Incarceration & Veterans' Services. "Veterans can play an important role in educating our youth about life and what it means to put service above self."

The Montgomery County Youth Bureau and Veteran's Service Agency are seeking youth, youth groups and organizations willing to offer their time to the veterans in our community. To sign on as a volunteer youth group or if you are a veteran and would like some assistance with your spring yard work, please call the Montgomery County Youth Bureau at 518-853-4355 or email Youth Bureau Director Brenda Rava at brava@co.montgomery.ny.us.

Wednesday, April 22 is Earth Day and marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. This event coincides with the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce's Clean Up Day.
