Amsterdam Printing Announces Plans to Invest, Remain in Montgomery County

Promotional Product Company Will Invest Over $6 Million, Remain In Amsterdam & Explore Future Growth

FONDA - County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort announced, on Wednesday, that Amsterdam Printing and Lithograph will remain in Amsterdam and invest in the future of Montgomery County. Amsterdam Printing will also invest significantly into its facility and stay in the community that it has been part of for more than a century.

"Today is a good day for Amsterdam and Montgomery County, as a whole," Ossenfort said. "My administration, along with the support of the County Legislature and the fierce advocacy of our local elected officials, has made economic development a fundamental priority for Montgomery County. Today, our commitment to economic development has yielded tangible results."

Empire State Development offered Amsterdam Printing a performance-based incentive that could total $3.25 million, to invest and remain in New York and the Mohawk Valley. Additionally, the New York Power Authority has awarded the company 246 kilowatts of low-cost power, to be used over seven years and New York State Homes and Community Renewal is providing a $900,000 grant.

"Amsterdam Printing has helped grow the local economy for more than a century and when its parent company began evaluating where to invest for the future, we made a strong case to company officials and showed them why Upstate New York is a great place to continue to do business," said Howard Zemsky, Empire State Development, Acting President, CEO & Commissioner.

The Montgomery County Business Development Center worked closely with Amsterdam Printing and with New York State officials in preparing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application that was an integral component of the assistance package that ultimately kept Amsterdam Printing rooted in the area.

"I applaud the agencies from the state who worked in concert with our county officials to get these positive results," said Legislative Chairman Martin P. Kelly, District 1. "Amsterdam Printing is one of the biggest employers in the area and to see that they are committed to Montgomery County is a good feeling and one that should speak volumes about the direction we are headed in."

Amsterdam Printing will invest more than $6 million over the next seven years, including purchasing a state of the art printing press, retain 365 jobs and set a course for employment growth.

"The State has offered a partnership that will build upon the 115-year tradition in the Mohawk Valley, allowing us to grow and thrive in an ever-changing and improving business climate," said Tim Broadhead, President, Amsterdam Printing.

Amsterdam Printing was founded in 1898, by Abraham Singer, and has been owned by Taylor Corporation since 1996. The company has grown into one of the 20 largest promotional product companies in the United States and is a leader in producing products that help businesses promote their company and retain their customers.

"Amsterdam Printing is a crucial employer in the Town of Amsterdam, the county and the region," said Thomas P. DiMezza, Supervisor, Town of Amsterdam. "The investment Amsterdam Printing is making shows that they are committed to the area and believe the future is bright."

"Amsterdam Printing is a company that has so much history in our area and is a critical component of our economic base," said Legislative Deputy Chairperson Barbara S. Wheeler, District 7. "The announcement that Amsterdam Printing will not only remain, but will invest and expand is terrific news."

"This is a great day for the ninth legislative district, home to Amsterdam Printing," said Economic Development Chairman Robert A. Purtell, Legislator, District 9. "Economic development begins at home and it is the day-to-day efforts of the Montgomery County Business Development Center, reaching out to and assisting existing local businesses, that keeps jobs in the county and grows our economic base."
