Montgomery County Board of Elections Readies for November 4th

Ballot proposals, extended hours available as Election Day approaches

FONDA -The upcoming general election is less than two weeks away. County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Board of Elections want residents prepared, when they step into the voting booth.

The full proposals can be read online on the Board of Elections Ballot Information page. This website also has sample ballots, so voters can become familiar with exactly what they will see on
Election Day.

There are three State proposals on this year's ballot. They are 1) Revisiting the State's Redistricting Procedure 2) Permitting Electronic Distribution of State Legislative Bills and 3) The Smart Schools Bond Act of 2014.

City of Amsterdam residents will see five additional proposals. They include replacing the Mayor from presiding over Common Council meetings, defining the separation of authority between the Mayor and Common Council, state that the form of City government is a "strong mayor" form of government and adding two additional Aldermen, which would increase the total to seven. One final proposal for city residents will provide that the operating budget of the Mayor and Controller may not be reduced by the legislative branch below a set floor percentage of appropriations.

One single proposal affects residents in the Town of St. Johnsville. This is to enact a local
law changing the Office of Superintendent of Highways from an elective position to appointed.

In addition, the Montgomery County Board of Elections will have extended office hours from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 30, and will be open on Saturday Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., for the purpose of absentee voting for the General Election. You qualify for an absentee ballot if your duties, occupation, or business requires you to be away from your county ofresidence, or if a person is sick or physically disabled, or if you are away on vacation on the day of the election.
