I have received a number of questions regarding holding drive-thru parades and wanted to issue clarification. Drive-thru parades are permitted, but you must remain in your vehicle and no gatherings of more than 10 people are permitted.
Any ceremony or event that would include a gathering of more than 10 people is considered by the state, a mass gathering and is not allowed. However, auto parades/“drive-thru” events, such as birthday parties are allowed given there isn’t a gathering of more than 10 people at any one time. (Gatherings are referring to people outside of their vehicles, not the number of vehicles in the parade.)
There have been issues at these events in which people were not following guidelines, holding a large gathering and were exposed to Covid-19.
This is why it’s critical all participants follow social distancing guidance when participating in any type of drive-thru event.
I would like to thank those that have taken time to safely and responsibly conduct these events. They have been a wonderful way to lift spirits during a very difficult time.
Please keep in mind, adherence to social distancing will help us stay on track to begin Phase 2 of the reopening process in the Mohawk Valley. We are all in this together.
