County Breaks Ground on New Public Safety Garage in Fultonville

Project Continues Efforts to Remove Buildings from Flood Plain, Increase Efficiency

FONDA - County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort announced Friday that work has commenced on the new Public Safety Garage in Fultonville, which will relocate another building out of the flood plain.

"This project is moving forward with our goal of relocating critical buildings out of the flood plain and increasing efficiency by having the Public Safety Facility's equipment stored in a garage outside their offices," Ossenfort said.

Half of the approximately $1.3 million project is grant funded. The garage will be a steel framed metal building with a footprint of up to 9,000 square feet. Relocating the garage from Park Street in Fonda to 200 Clark Drive in Fultonville will combine all of the emergency services vehicles and equipment in one location. The facility will accommodate garage equipment for the County Sheriff's Department and Emergency Services. This includes their vehicles, boats, trailers, generators and other storage. Relocating the garage will cut down on response time by eliminating trips for equipment.

Montgomery County Department of Public Works Commissioner Eric Mead said crews will continue site work until the ground freezes.

"We are hoping for a June or July of 2019 project completion," Mead said.

"This is extremely exciting," Montgomery County Emergency Services Director Jeffery Smith said. "I'm grateful to the executive, legislature and DPW commissioner for pushing this project forward," Smith said.
