County Employees Hold Jeans Day to Assist Resident with Medical Expenses

Cathy Gatto Assists Family with Glen Country Store Reopening Despite Cancer Treatment

FONDA - Montgomery County employees recently held a Jeans Day Fundraiser to assist Tribes Hill resident Cathy Gatto.

"I am honored that the staff in Public Health decided to help a local resident with her expenses for medical needs related to her cancer diagnosis," Director of Public and Mental Health Sara Boerenko said.

Gatto had a reoccurrence of cervical cancer and is receiving treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia. She is expected to have one more treatment, before hopefully going into remission.

Gatto was already working with her family members to reopen the Glen Country Store as The Rustic Red House before finding out she was sick again. Along with her husband Thomas, sister-in-law Rochelle and her husband David Sahler, the store reopened on Sept. 1. Hours are currently 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. They;re hopeful to have the deli and café portion of the store open by the end of this month. The Rustic Red House also has many craft items available for sale. Many of which, Gatto made. She said reopening the store gave her hope and something to look forward to while going through treatment.

"We've gotten a lot of compliments [on the store]," Gatto said "People are loving that it's open and it just brings back a lot of their memories from when they were kids and they came in."

Updates about the opening of the store's deli and café will be posted on their Facebook page: The Rustic Red House - at Glen Country Store.
