Village of Hagaman and County Collaborate on Project

Share Services, Repair Guardrail

FONDA - Montgomery County Department of Public Works staff assisted village of Hagaman officials last week with the replacement of a guardrail on Mill Street.

District 9 Legislator Robert A. Purtell said he periodically meets with the district and the topic of replacing a guardrail was proposed. He said village officials began looking for a used or recycled guardrail for the replacement and county DPW staff offered to do the installation.

"It's just evidence of shared services and cooperation between the local municipalities," Purtell said.

County crews finished installing the guardrail last week. Purtell said the village and county also worked together on paving Northern Boulevard in Hagaman.

"Montgomery County DPW works in conjunction with all highway/DPW departments throughout the county as part of our shared services initiative," Montgomery County DPW Commissioner Eric Mead said. "We recently assisted the village of Hagaman with completing a recycle of Northern Boulevard and installing a guardrail on Mill Street," Mead continued. "The village supplied all necessary material and we assisted with equipment and manpower."

"We are always looking for opportunities to share services," Montgomery County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. "These are just two examples of the many ways we work together in this community."

Mead said every town in the county has been assisting with the completion of the highway program, as well as hauling black top for bike trail paving.

"In return, we offer the same services back to the town and village highway departments, offering trucks for ditching, paving town roads and hauling sand to replenish the towns' sand piles for the winter season," Mead said. "From my standpoint, all the departments work very well together and I think the level of support from the county DPW to the towns or villages and the towns or villages to the county grows stronger every day," he continued. "Any time there is a request for help, everyone chips in to the best of their ability, everyone wins when we all work together!"
