Statement of Legislative and Financial Impact:

I. Nature of Request:

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING COUNTY EXECUTIVE TO SIGN AGREEMENT FOR INMATE DENTAL SERVICES (SHERIFF)

II. Justification:

We must by law provide dental coverage to the inmates while they are in our custody.  This coverage is for necessary work only and nothing cosmetic.  This provider has been taking care of our inmates ofr years and seems to do a very good job.

III. Legislative Impact:

Pursuant to Article 3 of the Charter the County Executive has the authority to sign contracts.

IV. Financial Impact:

There is a financial impact for this resolution.  Years 2 and 3 of the contract, 2020 and 2021 have an increase of $4,500 per year, totalling $9,000.

A phone conversation with Dr. Kana indicated that he wanted to increase this contract last year, however the previous Sheriff asked him to keep it status quo as it was his last year in office and to allow the new Sheriff to handle any increase.  I do understand that there has not been an increase in quite some time and that the Dentist is nearing retirement, causing a concern for us in the future.
