RECOMMENDATION: 		     

RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A COUNTY EXECUTIVE (LEGISLATURE)

Resolution by Legislator: Headwell, Jr.
Seconded by: Kowalczyk

WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Executive has announced his resignation effective May 1, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Section 3.06 of the Montgomery County Charter states that if a vacancy occurs in the office of County Executive it shall be filled at the next general election for the remainder of the unexpired term and pending such election the County Legislature shall designate any qualified elector of the county to serve as County Executive

RESOLVED, that Robert A. Purtell a qualified elector of Montgomery County is hereby designated by the Montgomery County Legislature to be the Montgomery County Executive, effective immediately to serve until the outcome of the next general election.

MOTION TO AMEND by Legislator Majewski, seconded by Legislator Kowalczyk, to insert the name "Robert A. Purtell" into the RESOLVED clause, passed with Aye(5). Legislators Kelly, Allen, Wilson and Pepe voted Nay.(5/7/2024)

Statement of Legislative and Financial Impact:

I. Nature of Request:

RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A COUNTY EXECUTIVE (LEGISLATURE)


II. Justification:

The Montgomery County Executive has announced his resignation effective May 1, 2024 and the Montgomery County Charter states that the Montgomery County Legislature shall designate a qualified elector of Montgomery County to serve as the County Executive pending the outcome fo the next general election.


III. Legislative Impact:

Authorized pursuant to Section 3.06 of the Montgomery County Charter.


IV. Financial Impact:

No financial impact.
