DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in the County Department of Public Works and involves unskilled manual work in performing a variety of tasks connected with the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of buildings, equipment, and construction of structures such as bridges or buildings. Miscellaneous minor repair work may be performed, but it does not require the same degree of proficiency and ability as that called for in semi-skilled job of Structural Maintenance Worker. General directions are received from a superior in connection with each assignment and supervision is received while work is in process and upon completion. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. The incumbent does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in the County Department of Public Works and involves independently performing a variety of semi-skilled work including building, bridge and structural maintenance tasks, or for serving as a helper to a journeyman tradesman. In either case, although a working knowledge of one or more trades is necessary, an incumbent does not utilize the more skilled journeyman techniques for any considerable portion of the time. In addition, the work may involve the part-time operation of a truck, automobile, or other automotive equipment. General instructions are received for assignments and work is performed under immediate or general supervision depending upon the nature of the tasks. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Structural Maintenance Helpers. The incumbent does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience in either general building construction or maintenance work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, or electrical.
