* Holds contracts with Town of Minden and Town of Canajoharie as well as Town of Cherry Valley, Otsego County

(The 1927 Sanford was the original fire truck that started SMFD. The truck was purchased from a local junk yard in 1961 and from that point on the founding members built the 1st fire station which is located just south of the new fire station.)

* Over the years many members of SMFD have moved on to join other departments and have earned the rank of chief of their new departments as well as one becoming Montgomery County Fire Coordinator/EMO Director
* One founding member, Sherman D. Rockwell, still holds active firefighter status with the deparment as well as a position on the board. He has served since the idea of forming the fire department and has also held the position of Fire Chief for over 30 years.
* Every Tuesday evening we hold a work night at the station at 7PM
