The City of Amsterdam is known as the "Small City with a Big Heart". It is located just off of NYS Thruway Exit 27. This city has a population of around 18,500 and is conveniently located near several colleges and universities, as well as a short commute to the major employment centers in the Capital District. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, this former mill-town is rich in local history. The award-winning St. Mary's Hospital is the largest local employer, with a beautiful campus overlooking the Mohawk River.
