COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
These were created in
conjunction with other local agencies to address specific health related needs
in our communities.
The mission of this
group is to prevent premature sexual activity and parenthood through education,
empowerment and healthy life choices. The task force is developing a county
wide youth service program directory and a teen parent directory.
This bi-county task
force was created in 1988 in response to the number of people infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS. Task Force members seek to raise community awareness by
providing education awareness activities, technical assistance, advocacy,
emergency financial assistance to those living with HIV/AIDS, referral services
and a speaker’s bureau.
The focus of this group
is to improve the heart health of the community through the promotion of
physical activity and health nutrition. The assessment of the community began
in January of 1998 and the operational phase has now begun. Recently a Physical
Activity Guide was created and
distributed to all county residents. Other activities include nutrition
education at local schools and
developing community gardens in Amsterdam.
