The Heritage and Genealogical Society of Montgomery County, in cooperation with the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives, will host its 8th annual "Heritage Day" event on Saturday, May 15th from 10am to 3pm at the Montgomery County Department of History & Archives in Fonda. The event is free and open to the public.
As in the past, the event brings together local authors and historical societies/museums in an effort to raise awareness of the Mohawk Valley's rich heritage. Books and various items will be available for sale, as well as refreshments and a bake sale.
Amsterdam City Historian, Robert von Hasseln & lifelong Amsterdam resident, Jerry Snyder will be present to sign their new Arcadia postcards book, "Amsterdam"
Local Artisans will be displaying their talents at Heritage Day. Exhibits and representatives from a wide expanse of historic sites/museums from across the Mohawk Valley include Old Fort Johnson, Herkimer Home, Schoharie Crossing, Friends of Sanford Stud Farm, Fulton County Historical Society, Piseco Historical Society, Galway Preservation Society, Sharon Historical Society, Walter Elwood Museum and Historic Fort Klock.
This year’s raffle includes a variety of items to enable you to continue your enjoyment of history long after Heritage Day.
The Heritage & Genealogical Society of Montgomery County was organized in 1976, as a non-profit group to assit in preserving the invaluable heritage of Montgomery County through its support of the Montgomery County Department of History & Archives. Funds raised through membership and events are used to purchase books and materials enabling the Department of History & Archives to enhance its collection.
