Our 5th Annual HERITAGE DAY was a great success! It was another fun-filled day in which local authors, and historical societies/museums convened to raise an awareness of the Mohawk Valley's heritage. Books and various items were available for sale. Our speaker this year was Milton C. Sernett, Professor Emeritus of African American Studies at Syracuse University. His presentation was "North Star Shining: New York State's Freedom Trail - An Illustrated Journey Along the Underground Railroad " Various items were raffled off at HERITAGE DAY. We had a wonderful assortment of prizes to be raffled off this year:
A basket of items, valued at $80.00, was also raffled off on Heritage Day, May 5th 2007. The items included were:
Cheryl Baitsholts was on hand to demonstrate her craft of spinning while Lee Billington demonstrates his art of chair caning. Cheryl also brought along products of her artistry in making soaps. It was an exceptional time! There was food available to purchase (thanks to the members of the Heritage Day committee!) and local baked goods were available for sale. This program, which was free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities' Speakers in the Humanities program. |
