HERITAGE DAY

Our 4th Annual HERITAGE DAY was a great success! It was a fun-filled day in which local authors, historical societies/museums and a rare books dealer convened to raise an awareness of the Mohawk Valley's heritage. Books and various items were available for sale.
Various items were raffled off at HERITAGE DAY. There was a wonderful assortment of prizes: one-night accommodations at: A White Rose B&B (Fort Plain), Kanatsiohareke B&B (Yosts), Hazelnut Farms B&B, Halcyon Farm B&B (Mill Point), $50 toward lodging at Inn by the Mill B&B (St. Johnsville), and a tea & tour at the Brown House Inn B&B (Minaville). Three local researchers have all generously donated their time to conduct genealogy research as raffle prizes.

A basket of items, valued at $60.00, was also raffled off on Heritage Day 2006. The items included:

  5. Montgomery County Images of America photographic history
  6. Name index to Simms' Frontiersmen of New York

  8. Old Courthouse wooden collectible
  9. 1986 Sesquicentennial coin commemorating 150th anniversary of 1836 Old Courthouse

Baskets of scrapbooking items, as well as genealogy software, a Beers' History of Montgomery & Fulton Counties (1878), and a combined set of "Steeple Chase:" The History of the Churches in the Town of Canajoharie and the Dept. of History & Archives' Catalogue of Historical & Genealogical Materials were among the raffle prizes

HERITAGE DAY attendees were entertained with traditional Irish music provided by Sprakers resident Roland Vinyard. Cheryl Baitsholts and Lorraine Whiting, historian for the Town of Charleston were each on hand to demonstrate their crafts of spinning. Cheryl also brought along products of her artistry in making soaps.
Thomas Quackenbush, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, was there to welcome visitors and present a proclamation commemorating thirty years of the Heritage and Genealogical Society. Here he is lending a hand to Stephen Helmin, President of the Heritage and Genealogical Society.
